Thanks for this info, it's really useful to know.
It's strange that this effects the blueband master and not the default. I guess they are coded differently. I try to base all my master pages on default now as i found other css problems with the blueband master page.
Its pretty simple to make the default master look like the blueband master just using a few lines of CSS.

Just so you know, I applied the hotfix mentioned above and it worked like a charm. Menus now function normally in ie8. I also hd to change a couple of css issues but apart from that, all good.

I found that IE=IE7 didn't work on our SharePoint site; however, IE=7 did. Just FYI for anyone out there having problems. We are running MOSS 2007 w/ WSS SP2.
