Starter Master Pages Update – October 8th 2010 4

Another quick post to let everyone know that I have updated the starter master pages that are up on CodePlex. There are a couple fairly important fixes in them so if you are already using the old version you may want to think about updating your code to reflect the changes. I’ve tried to highlight all the changes by posting my WinMerge change report. Some of the changes are very minor (like spacing and comments) and some are more important like the navigation changes and a fix that is included for the View dropdown in the ribbon.

Also, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that came up to me at SPTechCon in Boston to let me know you are like the starter master pages, good to know that people are finding them useful.

As always you can grab my latest starter master pages from: http://startermasterpages.codeplex.com

    Hi Randy, thanks for your help with the starters.

    When using the publishing master under a publishing site with also centered fixed width design, there is a fixed scroll in the body we can’t take it off. isn’t it possible?

    Thanks

    Hi Randy!

    I recently had a project creating some internet sites with SharePoint 2010 and had some issues due to look and feel of the site with IE7. I changed the meta properties in your starter masterpage from content=”IE=8″ to content=”IE=7″. Otherwise the site only looked good in IE8 and not IE7. But the problem then is that the site does not behave the same in other browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari. And idea of how to solve this? I have tried to run different CSS for different browsers, but does not work so well.

    Thanks!

    I want to create a fixed width centered master page. I have overrided the corev4.css stylesheet as shown below.
    body #s4-workspace{
    width:980px !important;
    overflow:visible;
    margin-left:auto;
    margin-right:auto;
    text-align:left;
    background-color:white;
    }

    body.v4master{
    text-align:left;
    overflow:auto;
    }

    I have also added s4-nosetwidth for div with id s4-workspace.

    This works fine for content pages, they all render perfectly with fixed width and centered layout.
    But when I open something in modal dialog (e.g creating a new list or adding a new list item) it also keeps the scrollbar for the page outside the modal dialog meaning parent page.
    So when I scroll it not only the page inside the modal dialog get scroll but also the main page from where I opened that modal dialog it also get scrolled, so it does not provide proper user experience.
    I would like to know how I can disable that scrollbar outside the modal dialog window.

    Thank you very much for your help.
